Doncaster, the Romans, and Travelcash:
Doncaster started life as a Roman Fort situated on the River Don. When the city was founded in the first century, the Romans didn't use the good old Pound Sterling, but used the Denarius. Back then, one Denarius was worth ten bronze asses, although the bronze ass was phased out in the year 89 BC. Apparently it was quite an unpopular move with most of the Roman Soldiers at the time; legend has it that they liked to keep some spare ass on hand.
We've checked back through the Travelcash Archives to see if perhaps Julius Caesar might have used our click-and-collect currency exchange service, and you wouldn't believe what we discovered. Unfortunately, GDPR prevents us from telling you any of the details. But what we can tell you, is that if you're looking for a fantastic exchange rate next time you go abroad, our Bureau de Change service offers the best rates in town, and you'll get great service too!
